Need help attaching files to an online job application. I keep getting the response "wrong file format."HELP!

I am trying to attach files that are saved in desktop and in my documents however, when I browse and then press attach as per the instructions on the application I get an error that says"Incorrect File Format". It then lists."doc,.jpj,.pdf,.zip.rar,.wks,.wpd only". I created the references I am trying to attach in Microsoft works and saved them to"my desktop" and I scanned my transcript and saved it in" my documents".I am using windows 2000. I don't have any previous experience attaching other than e-mail documents and would
