Why is the iPhone so much more expensive than the iPod touch?

Why is the iPhone so much more expensive than the iPod touch?
I am an owner of an iPhone and an iPod touch, but I struggle to see why it's price tag is almost three times as much? Having the ability to receive mobile signal, having a better camera and GPS surely are not that much more expensive? Or is it just apples marketing? Is the iPod touch aimed at younger people and the iPhone at older, wealthier people? Ideas please?
